  • siemens india says “no CTRL P” on world earth day, 22nd april 2010

Monday, April 19, 2010 by Sudhir MD

on world earth day 2010, we renew our commitment as comrades and co-activists to mother earth by switching off all the network printers across over 15 major offices in india.

no, its not a holiday, we havent switched to rock engraving or graffiti! smile on this day, we are switching to digital storage devices such as USB drives, memory sticks, digital scans, emails and the likes for transporting data.

what motivated us to take this step? its some facts like these:
    • for every ton of copier paper, 2-3 tons of trees are cut in some forests, somewhere
    • though there’s this concerted effort towards using recycled paper and the likes, about 71% of the world’s paper supply still comes from forests = more trees facing the axe
    • one tree approximately takes over 30 years to fully grow, before it could be cut for making paper

stark and raw. arent they? share the word, spread the awareness. stop reckless printing. save trees.

the monsters of global warming and climate change are round the corner. the whole world is going gaga over go-green. cleaner (read greener) actions being the need of the hour, OSRAM india has taken it quite literally through the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in reducing CO2 emissions.

in this project OSRAM India will distribute Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) to people falling in the low income group bracket who do not have the purchasing power for these lamps. OSRAM will distribute up to 2 million energy-saving lamps to such households.

in the first phase of the CDM Visakhapatnam Project, the districts of visakhapatnam in andhra pradesh, sonepat and yamuna nagar in haryana and pune in maharashtra have been chosen for distributing OSRAM CFL lamps. gradually the program would cover other districts.

the total energy saving from these 3 projects will amount to more than 1.3 million KWh and over 1 million tons of CO2 savings through the project duration.

OSRAM is the world’s first lighting manufacturer to receive approval from the UN for a CDM for reducing CO2 emissions - more

today we are launching our corporate blog to not only have conversations with you but also to answer your questions relating to siemens india.

through this blog we hope to throw more light on some of our innovative technologies and products, environmental efforts, b2b initiatives, marketing campaigns, key events, and more…though siemens india-related activities is the focus of this blog, the discussion might glide to broader subjects that extend to siemens global issues and topics, which we may not address to as fast as expected.

though this blog is moderated, we promise to present opposing viewpoints and attempt to keep posts interesting and diverse. so feel free to comment, but remember the basics of blog etiquette — no personal insult, no mudslinging, no futile quarrels, no vandalism, no threats, basically no spam, no profanity. one final disclaimer— siemens india blog is not the forum to address personal customer service issues. i have a “day job” and would not be able to resolve individual concerns.

iam hoping to post a fresh topic every week, but a lot depends on participation which translates into motivation!

  • about the blogger

Sunday, October 19, 2008 by Sudhir MD

hi, iam sudhir md and i live and work in mumbai, india.

i am responsible for the online footprint of siemens in india. since graduating in 1998, i have been with siemens in different buildings, departments, groups, and countries. over the past decade i have worked in various communication functions from marketing communications to internal communications, besides a bit of flirting with public relations.

though i have been associated with online media from the days when websites were black screens, green cursors and system fonts, its only in the past few years that i have started inhaling and exhaling the web.

while not working, i do stuff like write my personal blog (confidential!), indulge in ‘extreme’ travelling, read irvine welsh, chuck palahniuk, the likes and play badminton. a slave to music, i listen to alternative music (strangely, now mainstream music) like the killers, radiohead, and stereophonics.

the siemens india blog is my newest ‘extreme’ corporate quest and appreciate your being here.
