Siemens focuses a lot of effort on protecting the climate and the environment with ecological products and processes.
Our Siemens PLM team also provides tools to help our customers develop more environmentally-friendly products. One example is the GM Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell Vehicle. Over 100 of GM’s hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles are on the road in the USA, as part of a GM’s test plan called “Project Driveway”.
Recently, employees in our Cypress, California office were given the opportunity to explore and test drive two of these vehicles.
This Chevy Equinox is powered by hydrogen, and consumes no petroleum products. It is an EPA-certified zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) that emits only water vapor.
So, how did it drive? It was fast and quiet. When I pushed on the accelerator pedal, the car sped up like a sports car. It didn’t feel like I was driving an SUV. As for the sound coming from the engine, it was extremely quiet with almost no noise.
If you’re passionate about the environment, or want to save at the fuel pump, or just interested in joining the project driveway community, find out more at the Project Driveway site.
Residents of metropolitan New York City; Washington, D.C., or Southern California, may be eligible to test-drive an Equinox Fuel Cell vehicle. If you qualify, GM will provide the fuel, maintenance, insurance, OnStar service and a support team for a three-month period. You’ll get to drive a very cool car, just like we did!
It’s great to see green technology and new products in action - especially when our software played a role.
