It is Tuesday morning 8:00 am here in Paris. I am attending Philips Lighting presentation on their global multi-site engineering product development process, and how Teamcenter supports their global collaborative engineering.Teamcenter Community, based on Microsoft Share Point, is design collaboration platform. Teamcenter Engineering is their CAD management platform integrating 10 global sites. Their business has evolved - new organization, new processes, support for new alliances and partners, new product design technologies, and changes in IT technologies. They want to allow any designer to collaborate to any project or product maintenance without geographic constraints. They wanted to reduce number of servers. They are in the process of upgrading to Teamcenter 4-tier unified architecture, enabling them to reduce servers - from 10 servers to 3 servers - one data single data center in Europe, one in North America and one in China. This will allow them to reduce IT support cost, improve the design flexibility and simplify working methods. The early feed back from their pilot project has been extremely positive.
Nik is a product marketing manager for Teamcenter. Nik has been in the PLM industry for almost 30 plus years starting with CAD/CAM. He is passionate about PLM technology and its implementation by customers.
