Do you JT Open?

Posted Jun 03, 2008 - 01:25 PM by Aaron Brazell

JT Open is the single part of the PLM offering that is not a software part. A SDK is included for developers, however the program is just that... a program. It is a system of data exchange principles and formats for people to collaborate over.

JT Open is an standardized common file format that allows customers, partners, vendors, supply chain providers and OEMs the ability to eliminate the overhead that comes with the multiplicity of CAD and engineering products and data file formats.

However, to bill JT as simply a file format short changes the power of the community. The strength of the JT program is in the collaborative teamwork that can come from a standardized PLM playing field.

JT is largely dominated by the automotive industry with members like Rolls Royce, Daimler and Renault but spans multiple industries and academia with other members such as Adobe, Intel and Brigham Young University.
