Last year when we introduced synchronous technology in Solid Edge at PLM Connection in Orlando last year, several users were asked their opinion of the new announcement.
One user in particular was excited but quickly pointed out that without
synchronous technology in the sheet metal
environment, he really couldn’t benefit from having the new technology. And that wasn’t the last we heard from users. In the Q&A of our main session, the first question from users was, “Will it be in Sheet Metal?” Now, we’re very happy to tell all Edgers that it’s HERE!For all you sheet metal fans,
check out synchronous technology for sheet metal
. The folks in Huntsville, have done a great job of making synchronous technology features available for sheet metal:
All,
Now that sheet metal has been announced, a few people have asked if you can create flat patterns of 3D sheet metal designs created using Synchronous Technology. The answer is yes! Flat patterns can be created directly form a model created in Synchronous Technology and you can specify the orientation to best match the sheet—an alarm will display if the flat pattern exceeds the sheet size.
Automatic drawings of flat patterns and folded models can also be created where bend information such as direction and angle can be called out. Note that drawings are not needed for flat patterns, as you can save flat patterns directly to a DXF file from the folded model.
If (and when), you make changes to the folded model with Synchronous Technology, flat patterns, and drawings update automatically.
Good question, keep them coming.

Greatest work - I have position the script on my Christmas wish list and contributed it to my blog situation.
Thank you for alarming me to your position - I don’t read every post completely, I know, and this one slipped past my microwave radar.

If you’re using Solid Edge or another 3D CAD system and are interested in exploring designing with synchronous technology, this is the place to start. These materials will help get you going.
