Avatars assemble vehicles at Ford?
Yes they do! Virtual vehicles, of course, and the avatars are called Jack and Jill.

Are you working in a manufacturing planning department? Are you an industrial engineer working on manual or semi-automatic work stations? If yes, the new capabilities of Jack (our digital human model) might be of interest for you. And if not, this might give you some insight about the work of a manufacturing engineer.
Let’s take a look at the left part of this picture:

What can I write about this short video? Maybe that it was done in about two hours. Actually, the simulation took only about 15 minutes to create using the task simulation capabilities of our digital human models, Jack and Jill. The majority of the time was consumed deciding on the wall paper design, curtains, and floor covering ![]()

Are you like me and want to clean up stuff you currently don’t need and place it into storage container? Most of them are transparent so that I could see directly what’s in it. I do have several ones at home, some contain Christmas decoration, ski clothes or other stuff which I do not need all the time. Did you ever think about how they are manufactured?
Mostly injection molding machines are used to heat up the plastic material and squeeze it into a mold.

Recently, I read about a mobile phone company which mentioned that they need to adjust their manufacturing lines every three weeks due to the fluctuation in the amount of mobile phones they sell over time.Besides reducing manufacturing cost, increasing flexibility is one of the most important goals of manufacturing companies. The main reason is the non-predictable customer demands which change over time.
Let’s look at the most flexible part of a production line: humans … we are much more flexible in terms of reacting to changing conditions than robots or other automated equipment. But most manufacturing lines are highly automated.
